Is it time for Jews to leave Europe? cover stories in Atlantic and Commentary magazines have asked.

Hitler didn t finish the job! a mob at San Francisco State University screamed at pro-Israel students. Agitators at the University of Texas forced a visiting Israeli professor to go about in disguise. Progressive students at Oberlin College dismissed the Holocaust as merely white-on-white crime. Such examples proliferate as an anti-Zionist/antisemitic indoctrination intensifies.

Israel is the only Western-style democracy in the greater Middle East, a world-leader despite its small size in medicine, science and technology and is the effective first-responder in many global humanitarian relief efforts. Yet international public opinion surveys find it ranked as one of the chief threats to world peace; 20 percent of Europeans wish their countries were free of Jews.

What happened to the post-1945 world of Never Again! ? In Jews Make the Best Demons: Palestine and the Jewish Question, to be published this October by New English Review Press, Eric Rozenman examines how we got here, the danger posed not only for the Jewish state and Jews everywhere but also for the United States and the rest of the self-doubting liberal West. He outlines what must be done to halt the post-modern propagation of pre-modern beliefs.

Theodore Herzl and the other founders of political Zionism expected their Altneuland, the old-new Jewish state, to at long last normalize the status of the Jewish people, so often in their 2,000-year statelessness marginalized and massacred. Instead, Rozenman shows, antisemitism resurrected through anti-Zionism has made Israel the Neualtjude, the new-old Jew, in the process indicting the Jewish people not as demonic Christ-killer but rather as demonic nation-killer of the Palestinian Arabs.

The new blood libel, cloaked in the Palestinian narrative, is as false as the original and no more likely to be defeated primarily by facts. Jews Make the Best Demons concludes that what is required first of all is a psychological transformation, the one pointed to by psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl. It is a rejection of George Orwell s streamlined men who think in slogans and talk in bullets and embrace of Frankl s race of the decent, shunning all the indecent who seek a final answer to the question of Palestine, which in reality is the question of Israel, the age-old Jewish question.

Review

Rozenman's cry from the heart establishes the clear connection between the old antisemitism and the new anti-Zionism. Only the blind or the wicked can deny his truth, proven by exemplary research; everyone else will learn from him.
--
Daniel Pipes, founder of Middle East Forum and Middle East Quarterly

Copiously researched and elegantly written, this book offers an uncommonly insightful analysis into the alarming increase in antisemitism and its offshoot, anti-Zionism, throughout the world but especially the Eurozone. Eric Rozenman demonstrates how the ideologically motivated, headline-grabbing, Western media perpetrate misinformation and outright lies against Israel, while simultaneously failing to report news favorable to the Jewish state. This is a brilliant book that should be required reading for anyone concerned about the oldest prejudice threatening our civilization once again.

Juliana Geran Pilon, Senior Fellow, Alexander Hamilton Institute for the Study of Western Civilization, author of The Art of Peace: Engaging a Complex World.

Antisemitism has long been a scourge to Jews throughout
the world. It is displayed by a senseless and irrational hatred
of Jews. One expression of antisemitism was the blood
libel. It was a “charge that Jews murdered non-Jews and
used their blood for religious purposes” - E.R. on PG. 10.
In his book “Jews Make the Best Demons” Eric Rozenman
expertly explains and details how Israel has become the
focus of a resuscitated or NEW blood libel.

The demonization of Israel via historical revisionism by
UNESCO and other organizations, and via frequent
media distortions and lies has become the conduit for
an explosion of antisemitism.

Eric Rozenman fills his book with example after example
of Israel being subjected to double standards, demonization
and delegitimization [Scharansky’s 3Ds]. This book is
phenomenal. Anyone interested in Israel and modern-day
antisemitism should certainly procure a copy. The book is
packed with notable personalities, facts, insights and
analyses. There are enlightening quotes and an astute
review of controversial issues and consequential events.

Do get this book! It is worth every instructive page.

Reading this book was very insightful on knowing the origin and history of subtle and outright hostility to the Jewish people in everyday life all the way to leading political leaders from the past and in the early decades of the 21st century. The author does a very good job of showing how anti-Semitism began, how it was packaged, repackaged and in its various forms of subtle and blatant lies being told over and over eventually become true to the hearer who has little knowledge of the Jewish people, culture and history. The book shows anti-Semitism has not changed in its attitude of hatred to Jewish people whether they live in the United States, many countries in Europe and the Middle East. The book is a reminder that human behavior has not changed over many centuries to the Jewish people.

"Jews make the best demons" is an essential book about antisemitism that anyone studying the topic or willing to understand the current events should read. The author shares his immense historical and political knowledge, connects the dots like no other, and provides numerous references. Having personally lived some of the events mentioned, I highly recommend this book.

The first couple chapters were tough for me, but I was rewarded with the rest of the book. Very insightful, enlightening book. Plus I added at 25 words to my vocabulary.

An extremely important--and very well written--book. Rozenman seeks to understand what drives the Arab-Israeli conflict. He convincingly demonstrates that anti-Israel sentiment is often the latest variant of the age-old virus: Antisemitism. He details the absurd and often outrageous double standards that the Jewish state--and only the Jewish state--is held to. The author does a great job of illustrating how this latest manifestation of antisemitism compares to previous varieties. Part history book, party polemic, the evidence that the author musters is damning. His chapters on the roles of post-modern philosophy and education in perpetuating antisemitism/anti-Zionism was particularly interesting. The writing is both superb and concise--the author managed to successfully make the topic both interesting and relatable. In many respects, this book makes a great companion piece to Paul Berman's work "The Flight of the Intellectuals"; both are fiercely argued polemics that leave the reader with a better appreciation for the topic. Highly recommended for anyone with an interest in the middle east, antisemitism, terrorism, zionism and human rights.

This book is a "great read" and a valuable resource for readers wanting to understand antisemitism and anti-Zionism in the 21st century. The author does a masterful job of explaining the roots of antisemitism, and how this historical scourge continues in the present day. Mr. Rozenman carefully documents all of the book's statements. Importantly, he educates the reader regarding what forces and individuals are behind this problem and why. Readers who regard themselves as knowledgeable about antisemitism and anti-Zionism will be surprised by how much they learn from Mr. Rozenman's analysis. The book should be on the reading lists of Jewish studies programs in colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad.

This book is an outstanding scholarly analysis of antisemitism: the historic events that caused it; the movements that continue to exploit it; and the anti-Israeli misconceptions that flow from it. After reading this insightful study you’ll be better equipped to assess whether an argument against Israel is fair criticism or camouflaged hostility towards Jews. You may be surprised to discover how many of the allegations fall in the latter category.
